FAIRFIELD – A Fairfield man is behind bars after allegedly assaulting a person and violating a protective order.

The Fairfield Police Department says that on Wednesday, September 23, at approximately 12:16 PM, officers responded to a residence in the 400 block of South D Street for a report of a disturbance involving a violation of an active protective order.

Upon arrival, officers made contact with both parties involved and determined that 49-year-old Kipp Timothy Newton was present at the residence despite an active protective order prohibiting contact with the victim.

During the investigation, authorities learned that a verbal confrontation had allegedly occurred and escalated into a physical altercation. Investigators observed evidence consistent with a physical altercation between Newton and the victim, and determined that there was probable cause to place Newton under arrest.

Newton is charged with Assault Committed by a Person Against Whom a Protective Order is Issued (Class D felony) and Violation of a Protective Order (simple misdemeanor).
