Police investigating a Saturday night shooting in Oskaloosa

Oskaloosa police are investigating a shooting at a home on 4th Avenue late Saturday night… A woman sustained a gunshot wound to the back as she was in her home at 602 4th Avenue East around 11 pm Saturday night. Officers found shell casings  along 4th Avenue East and at the intersection of South 5th Street. Bullets were also recovered from a nearby tree and wall of the home. The victim’s name and condition were not released. The public is asked to call the Oskaloosa Police Department if they have information regarding the case.  The investigation is ongoing.

On this day in 1986, Dolly Parton‘s Dollywood theme park opened in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee. Dollywoodhas over 3,000 people on its payroll, making it the largest employer in the community. In addition to standard amusement park thrill rides, Dollywood features traditional crafts and music of the Smoky Mountains area.

Hawkeye Athletics hosts Oskaloosa Community Day on September 1st

The Iowa Hawkeyes are hosting Oskaloosa Community Day during the Iowa vs. Northern Illinois game on Saturday, September 1.  Kickoff has been set at 2:30 p.m.

Any member of the Oskaloosa community can purchase an unlimited number of $35 group rate adult tickets and $25 youth tickets.  The single game ticket price is $50 per seat.

“There is nothing like experiencing a Hawkeye football game a Kinnick Stadium,” stated Charlie Taylor, Associate Athletics Director of Strategic Communications and Marketing.  “We hope the community of Oskaloosa and its residents will have a significant presence in the stadium and enjoy game day on the UI campus.  We are proud to offer easy access to tickets for the community for this game,” Taylor added, noting the ticket program is available to any community in the state.

Suspicious death investigated

Authorities in Washington, Iowa say they are investigating a man’s death described as suspicious.  The Washington Police were called to an apartment complex just before 8am Wednesday morning for a report of a person found dead.  They called the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation to help.  Police have not released the name of the deceased or any additional details at this time.

The last song to do so was 1977’s “Luckenbach, Texas (Back to the Basics of Love)” by Waylon Jennings. In that span, more than 750 songs had reached #1 on the country chart, a majority of them for just one week.
