Country Stars Rock This Shirt Saves Lives for St. Jude
The country music community unified on Thursday (Dec. 6) to support patients of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis, Tenn. All over social media, stars rocked the new This Shirt Saves Lives tee in a show of solidarity to raise awareness for the life-saving research at St. Jude.
Besides country music’s support of the American military, it’s hard to find a cause the genre is more connected to than St. Jude. Alabama’s Randy Owen started the capital campaign Country Cares for St. Jude Kids in 1989, and since then, the initiative has raised more than $750 million to support the facility.
St. Jude treats about 8,500 children with cancer and other life-threatening diseases each year. Rocking the This Shirt will continue the hospital’s ongoing mission to save its patients, whose families never receive a bill for their care. And that care continues into adulthood.
The only way to get a shirt is to become a St. Jude Partner in Hope with the commitment of a monthly donation through the This Shirt website.
The Better Business Bureau warns of gift card scams
The National Retail Federation says they expect gift card spending to reach an estimated $27.6 billion this holiday season. That number will be made up of, on average, a gift card purchaser buying four gift cards worth roughly $45 each. The BBB says people should look at the gift card before purchasing it in the stores. If the PIN number is exposed, or the packaging has been tampered with, grab a different one.
Sometimes scammers write down the numbers associated with the card, then put it back on the shelves and wait until someone buys it. Once a customer purchases the card, then the scammer uses the number online and wipes the gift card clean before the customer can even use it.
The BBB also wants to remind people to be cautious if you buy a gift card from a third party. You might receive a gift card that has no value, is expired, or was obtained illegally. They also say no company will ask for a payment via gift card and if you receive a call that ask for one, hang up. Sometimes scammers use scare tactics and try to threaten people with jail time if you don’t pay them immediately with a gift card.

On this day in 1977, Willie Nelson recorded tracks for his forthcoming album Stardust. Produced by Booker T. Jones, all the songs on the album consist entirely of pop standards that Nelson picked from among his favorites. Executives of Columbia Records were not convinced that the album would sell well, because the project was a radical departure from his earlier success in the outlaw movement. When released, Stardust was on Billboard’s Country Album charts for ten years – from its release until 1988.
