Woman, 3 Children Hurt in Iowa SUV-Train Collision

FORT DODGE, Iowa (AP) — Authorities say a woman and three children have been injured in a collision with a train in north-central Iowa.

The crash occurred a little before 3:30 p.m. Saturday, southeast of Fort Dodge. An Iowa state trooper says the southbound sport utility vehicle driver didn’t see the eastbound train at the crossing, which is marked by signs but doesn’t have electronic signals or crossing gates.

The car driver has been identified as 38-year-old Traci Guthrie, of Fort Dodge. She’s been release from a hospital. Ten-year-old Colin Guthrie was flown to a Des Moines hospital, as was 8-year-old Colton Guthrie. Seven-year-old Colton Buckley was treated for minor injuries.

Class 3A and 4A Baseball Districts and Substates Released

The Class 3A and 4A districts and substates have been released for baseball by the Iowa High School Athletic Association.

Osky will have an interesting challenge in Class 3A District 12, as they’ll be paired with archrival Pella, Knoxville, and Chariton. Knoxville and Osky have played three times with the Indians winning two of the meetings. Chariton and Pella will be underdogs in first round matchups.

In District 11, Grinnell is mixed in with Benton Community, South Tama County, and Vinton-Shellsburg. V-S is ranked #3 in Class 3A in the latest rankings.

In Class 4A, Newton is in Substate 2. They’ll have to go through #6 Ankeny Centennial, Fort Dodge, #7 Indianola, Marshalltown, and Mason City to make it to state. The Cardinals will be a big underdog in this group.

Finally, Substate 3 involves Ottumwa, who is receiving votes in the latest Iowa High School Baseball Coaches Association Rankings. The Bulldogs will need to outlast Cedar Falls (also receiving votes), Cedar Rapids Kennedy, #8 Cedar Rapids Prairie, Southeast Polk, and Waterloo West. Ottumwa will have a shot, but will need to play well to make it to Principal Park.

Carrie Underwood Will Receive Star On Hollywood Walk of Fame

Carrie Underwood is one of the celebrities who will receive a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame as part of its Class of 2018. Underwood earns her star in the Recording category alongside musicians such as Mary J. Blige, Snoop Dogg, “Weird Al” Yankovic and Harry Connick Jr. Some of the other celebrities who were named to the Walk of Fame’s Class of 2018 include Jack Black, Jeff Goldblum, Mark Hamill, Jennifer Lawrence, Minnie  Mouse, Simon Cowell and many more.

 

 

Dates have not been scheduled for these star ceremonies, and recipients have two years to schedule their ceremonies from the date of selection before they expire.

 

June 23rd: On This Day

On this day in 2001, Lonestar began a six-week stay at #1 on the Billboard US Hot Country Songs chart with “I’m Already There”. The song also hit #2 on the Billboard US Adult Contemporary chart and peaked at #24 on the Billboard US 100 chart, making it a crossover hit.

The song was released as the lead-off single to their fourth studio album of the same and was the band’s seventh number one hit.

 

Toby Keith Fires Up “Wacky Tobaccy” With Willie Nelson

Toby Keith has recruited his longtime friend Willie Nelson to appear in the video for his new song, “Wacky Tobaccy.”  The comedic tune and video will be released on Friday (6/23), adding yet another “weed anthem” to Keith’s catalog of songs. In 2003, Toby released the song “Weed With Willie,” which he wrote with frequent collaborator Scotty Emerick about what happens on Nelson’s tour bus.

 

  • Toby teamed up with Emerick once again for this new tune, which will be available at all major digital music retailers and services.

Miranda Lambert Plays with Puppies During Q&A

Miranda Lambert recently sat down Buzzfeed to answer questions from fans while holding three adorable rescue puppies. In a new video released on Thursday (6/22), Miranda can be seen holding the adorable pups as she answered questions ranging from the worst thing her dogs have chewed on ( her Louis Vuitton purse) to who she’d like to collaborate with outside of country music (Beyoncé). Oskaloosa Rental Housing Inspection Program Registration and Informational Meetings

The City of Oskaloosa’s Rental Housing Inspection Program will soon go into effect. All residential rental properties within the City of Oskaloosa are required to be registered and will need to undergo regular inspections. Starting in July 2017, landlords will need to register their rental properties. Registration forms can be obtained at City Hall, the Public Works facility, or on the city’s website: www.oskaloosaiowa.org/index.aspx?nid=461. Completed forms and registration fees will need to be turned in or mailed to the city’s Public Works facility at 804 South D Street.

The third and final public informational meeting before the program begins has been scheduled for Tuesday, June 27. The meeting will be held at 6:00 PM at the Oskaloosa Public Library (301 South Market Street) in the 3rd Floor Meeting Room. The meeting will feature the same content as the previous two meetings, with topics of registering properties, paying registration fees, scheduling inspections, and complying with inspection requirements. The meeting is specifically oriented to answer landlord questions, but all are welcome to attend.

 

Oskaloosa Man Arrested on Drug Charges

On June 19th, 2017 at approximately 12:45 a.m. members of the Mid-Iowa Narcotics Enforcement Task Force with the assistance of the Mahaska County Sheriff’s Office and the Oskaloosa Police Department executed drug search warrants on a motor vehicle and residence located at 807 North H Street Apt #1 in Oskaloosa where illegal drugs and drug paraphernalia were seized.

As a result of the search warrants, one individual was taken to the Mahaska County Jail on drug charges. Zackary A. Wallace age 23 of that residence was charged with possession of marijuana with intent to deliver, a class D felony, and fail to affix a drug tax stamp, a class D felony.

As a reminder, a criminal charge is merely an accusation and all defendants are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.

The Mid-Iowa Narcotics Enforcement Task Force is based in Des Moines and currently has 21 central Iowa local, county, state and federal agencies participating in the task force.
