Kacey Musgraves Gets Engaged

Kacey Musgraves and her boyfriend Ruston Kelly are engaged! It all went down on Christmas Eve (12/24) when Kelly got down on one knee and proposed to Kacey in her childhood home. In a post on Instagram, Musgraves revealed that she said “HELL YESSSS” when Ruston popped the question in “the same room I played with my ponies and barbies.” She then said, “I finally know what everyone means when they say ‘you just know.'” The message was accompanied by a picture of Kacey showing off her new bling in front of a silver tinsel Christmas tree.

 

·         Musgraves returned to Instagram later to share more details about the engagement, revealing that Kelly proposed while the song “Two For The Road” by Henry Mancini was playing. That full message can be seen here.

·         Kelly is a Nashville-based musician who has written songs for artists such as Tim McGraw and Kenny Chesney.

Murder Charge Filed After Shooting Victim Dies Weeks Later

OTTUMWA, Iowa (AP) — Authorities say an Ottumwa 16-year-old shot Nov. 29 has died, so the man accused of shooting him has been charged with first-degree murder.

The upgraded charge was filed Tuesday against 18-year-old Venhure Tsegay, who remained in Wapello County Jail on Wednesday, pending $500,000 bail. Online court records don’t list an attorney who could be contacted to comment for Tsegay.

Ottumwa police say Tsegay used a handgun to shoot Christian Madueno in the face. Police say he died Christmas Day.

On this day in 2006, Alan Jackson’s gospel CD, Precious Memories, was named the most successful Christian record of 2006. The album was the first gospel album of Jackson’s career, and his thirteenth album total.

The album didn’t produce any singles but still was Certified Platinum by the RIAA. A second volume, Precious Memories Volume II, was released in 2013.

Ottumwa Police Department Searching For Missing Person

On December 27, 2016, the Ottumwa Police Department was notified about a missing person who departed their home during the night.  The missing person was identified as Audie Lee Templeton, age 31, of 218 N. Van Buren, Ottumwa.

 

Templeton is described as a white male, 5 feet 9 inches tall, 180 pounds, green eyes, and brown hair.  Templeton was also wearing a heavy brown coat, shoes, pants, and eye glasses.

 

Templeton is mentally handicapped.  Templeton frequently walks on and around railroad tracks.  It is suspected that Templeton might be walking on the railroad tracks west of Ottumwa.

 

If anyone observed Templeton, or has information on his whereabouts, they are requested to contact the Ottumwa Police Department at 641-683-0661, or their closest law enforcement agency.

Lee Brice Performs At Fallen Soldier’s Funeral Service

Lee Brice paid tribute to U.S. Air Force Major Troy Lee Gilbert on Monday (12/19) during Gilbert’s full military honors funeral service at Arlington National Cemetery near Washington DC. During a private chapel service held at the nearby Joint Base Myer-Henderson Hall, Brice delivered a moving rendition of “Go Rest High On That Mountain” in honor of the fallen soldier. Gilbert was laid to rest 10 years after his F-16 fighter jet crashed while he protected U.S. ground troops in Iraq.

 

·       Among the family members in attendance at the service was Troy’s wife, Ginger Gilbert Ravella, whom Brice met at a Folds of Honor event in 2015.

Lee says, “I’m grateful for Troy’s sacrifice and I admire Ginger and her family for their sacrifice, also. I can’t imagine what they went through and I’m honored to have been a part of this special moment with this incredibly strong family.”

 

Des Moines Firefighters Injured Battling Tire Shop Blaze

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — Authorities say a Des Moines firefighter has been injured battling a blaze at a tire shop.

Des Moines television station KCCI reports (http://bit.ly/2hpliaa ) the fire was reported around 10 a.m. Monday. Authorities say the fire started while workers were attending to a vehicle on a lift inside Don’s Tire and Auto.

The employees escaped without injury. The injured firefighter was taken to Mercy Medical Center – Des Moines with non-life-threatening injuries.

Christmas Traditions – Rascal Flatts

Rascal Flatts’ Gary LeVox and Joe Don Rooney shared some of their Christmas traditions: (Gary LeVox) “I think ours are the same aren’t they?” (Joe Don Rooney) “Well, the pajamas thing’s always been one, you know everybody wearing pajamas and matching ‘em.” (Gary) “With our names on ‘em, like we don’t know who lives in the house.” (Joe Don) “We used to have Mexican food on Christmas Eve. My mama always wanted to have Mexican food. We try to do that now, and well, I’d have Mexican food any day of the week, but Christmas Eve is always kind of fun to do it to keep that tradition alive.”

Company Withdraws Iowa Filing For Power Line Project

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — Clean Line Energy Partners is withdrawing its Iowa application to build a power transmission line across part of the state as it awaits resolution of an Illinois court challenge.

Officials for Houston-based Clean Line said Thursday their decision was informed by the timing of the Illinois case and a schedule set by the Iowa Utilities Board.

Clean Line wants to build a 500-mile line from northwest Iowa across into Illinois, delivering 3,500 megawatts of power to Illinois and states farther east.

Illinois regulators approved the project in 2014, but a state appellate court reversed that decision in August and the Illinois Supreme Court has agreed to review the case. Clean Line said it will decide on renewing its Iowa filing after the Illinois high court rules.

Task Force Conducts Early Morning Raid

On Wednesday, December 21, 2016, at approximately 6:45 a.m., officers from Ottumwa Police Department Emergency Response Team, Iowa Division of Narcotics Enforcement, Ottumwa Police Department, and the Southeast Iowa Inter-Agency Drug Task Force, executed a search warrant at the Miguel Angel Gallegos JR residence located at 1707 Asbury, Ottumwa.

Evidence consistent with the distribution of marijuana was seized as a result of the search. The following people were arrested:

Miguel Angel Gallegos JR, age 30, of 1707 Asbury, Ottumwa, was charged with the following charges:
• Delivery of Marijuana, 4 Counts, all Class “D” Felonies
• Possession with the Intent to Deliver Marijuana, a Class “D” Felony
• Failure to Affix a Drug Tax Stamp, a Class “D” Felony
• Prohibited Acts (Enhanced) Possession of Cocaine, an Aggravated Misdemeanor

Amanda Norisa Gallegos, age 21, of 1707 Asbury, Ottumwa, was arrested and charged with:
• Prohibited Acts- Possession of Marijuana, a Serious Misdemeanor
• Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, a Simple Misdemeanor
