Luke Combs Talks Wedding Plans

Luke Combs has had a pretty huge year, and it looks like 2020 is going to be just as big. Not only does he have a new tour, including his first headlining stadium show, but more importantly, he’s getting hitched to fiancée Nicole Hocking.

“I’ll give you a hint,” he tells “People” of when his wedding will be taking place. “It’s one of the days next year. One out of 365.” When it’s pointed out that it’s a leap year, he clarifies, “Three hundred and sixty-six! The odds are down.”

As for the planning, Luke shares, “we’re actually a lot farther along than I think we both thought we would be with our schedules,” noting, “I’m excited about it. I really am. I’m looking forward to that day quite a bit.”

Documentary Being Made About Dolly Parton’s Movie “9 To 5”

The classic Dolly Parton/Jane Fonda/Lily Tomlin movie “9 to 5” is going to be the subject of a new documentary. “Still Working 9 to 5” will look back at the legacy of the 1980s comedy and will feature new interviews from the three stars of the film, as well as stars of the stage musical and 80s TV series it inspired.

The film will also look at the sexual politics and workplace issues highlighted in the film that are still prevalent today. As Dolly notes, “It’s 40 years now and it’s still important.”

And while everyone knows Dolly’s classic theme song, the documentary will feature new music and original score written by GRAMMY winning songwriter Shane McAnally.

The hope is to have the film out in time for the film’s 40-year anniversary next year. A Kickstarter campaign is currently underway to raise money for the documentary.

Dolly Parton On The #MetToo Movement, And Harassment She’s Experienced

Dolly Parton admits she has experienced forms of harassment in all her years in the business but says she’s “more fortunate than most women have” been.

“I’ve certainly been harassed in my life. I’ve certainly had to put up with a lot of BS. I was always strong enough to walk away from it and not to have to fall under it,” she tells “Elle” magazine. ‘I was lucky that I was in a good country town, where the men in the business have wives, and sisters, and cousins, and children.”

She adds, “It’s not like out there in the big world, like in California, where they chew you up and spit you out, or in New York, where they don’t have time, or in other big cities.” She also says that she was always strong enough, “to stand on my own or to say, ‘Go to hell,’ if that’s where you needed to go.”

As for the #MeToo movement, Dolly notes, “I think that brought so much stuff to the forefront that people had not been willing to look at, even though they knew it was happening.” Although she believes women “are in a better place now than they’ve ever been before,” she insists, “We still have a lot of the same problems. I think that we just have to keep working at it.”

Dolly was also asked which actress she’s love to see play her in a biopic of her life and she joked, “That depends on when I get it done,” although she does mention Scarlett Johansson and Reese Witherspoon.

Dolly is celebrating her 50th Anniversary as a member of the Grand Ole Opry this weekend, and the milestone will also be marked with an NBC special this fall. “Dolly Parton: 50 Years at the Grand Ole Opry” is set to air November 26th from 9-11 p.m. ET. The special will feature fellow musicians Dierks Bentley, Emmylou Harris, Chris Janson, Toby Keith, Lady Antebellum, Margo Price, Hank Williams Jr. and more.

Today in 1981, Willie Nelson records “Always On My Mind”

Today in 1981, Willie Nelson recorded “Always On My Mind” and “The Last Thing I Needed First Thing This Morning” at his Pedernales Studio outside of Austin, Texas.

The album “Always on My Mind” is the twenty-seventh studio album by Willie Nelson. It was the Billboard number one country album of the year for 1982, and stayed 253 weeks on the Billboard Top Country Albums charts, peaking at number one for a total of 22 weeks, as well as spending 99 weeks on the Billboard 200 for all albums, peaking at number two for 3 weeks.
During the recording sessions for Nelson’s collaboration album with Merle Haggard, Pancho & Lefty, the producer Chips Moman and Bobby Emmons suggested that they record Johnny Christopher’s “Always on My Mind”. Haggard had no interest in recording a version of the song for the album, so instead Nelson recorded his own version. In his autobiography, Nelson stated: “We’ll never know what would have happened if Merle had really heard the song right. ‘Always on My Mind’ bowled me over the moment I first heard it, which is one way I pick songs to record”.

The rest of the album was constituted by adult-contemporary and pop standards, such as “Do Right Woman, Do Right Man” and Paul Simon’s “Bridge Over Troubled Water”, as well as re-recordings of his own songs including “Permanently Lonely” (originally recorded for 1969’s Good Times LP) and “The Party’s Over” (originally recorded for The Party’s Over released in 1967).

A 2003 re-release of the album included two bonus tracks: “The Man Who Owes Everyone” and “I’m a Memory” (another re-recording of an earlier release).

Eric Church Donates To Schools Jog A Thon

At a concert earlier this month in San Francisco, Eric Church noticed a 10-year-old girl named Makenna Wallace holding a sign requesting he sponsor her for her school’s jog-a-thon fundraiser.

He brought the girl’s neon green sign on stage, raised it to the crowd, read it out loud, and said, “I will sponsor you for your jog-a-thon.” Then he added, “I like your shades, by the way,” acknowledging that the youngster was sporting sunglasses very similar to Church’s signature pair.

He’s now made good on that and cut a check for $10,000 to Wallace’s school, Soulsbyville Elementary School. The money will go towards building a new playground at the school, for which Wallace had already raised $735 for after running around three miles for the initiative, prior to the concert.
