Luke Combs is “Kinda Enjoying” Quarantine

Luke Combs has been self-quarantining like the rest of us, and it sounds like he actually likes it. When asked how he’s been doing in lockdown, he tells Rolling Stone,” he’s “kinda enjoying it, if I’m being honest with you.”

“I haven’t had any time at home for three or four years now,” he says, noting, “I definitely wish we were out doing shows, but it’s like hitting the reset button for me.” Luke says that it’s “great to get in a normal-life routine,” which includes doing stuff around the house, hanging out with fiancée Nicole Hocking, planting a garden and even writing songs.

“A simple existence is something I enjoy — and just finding joy in the quiet,” he says. “I don’t have any neighbors here that I can even see from my house, so I can hunt right here, ride ATVs, go look for morel mushrooms in the woods. I’m just living the redneck dream out here right now.”

Luke admits that he’s just as “anxious” as most people, and worries about when concerts will be able to start up again. “It’s a very uneasy time for me, but I’m making do with what I have,” he says. “I enjoy doing the livestreams and am going to continue to do those and work on my music and try to come back stronger than I was before.”

Tickets will be honored for the new, rescheduled date. Refunds will also be available to those who prefer.

Swift released the statement on her Twitter page, adding in her own special statement to her fans, “I’m so sad I won’t be able to see you guys in concert this year, but I know this is the right decision. The official statement read, “Fighting COVID-19 is an unprecedented challenge for our global community and the safety and wellbeing of fans should always be the top priority. The U.S. and Brazil shows will be rescheduled to take place in 2021, with dates to be announced later this year.”

On this day in 1959: 12-year-old Dolly Parton releases her first single

On this day in 1959, 12-year-old Dolly Parton released her first single, “Puppy Love.”

Written by Dolly at age 11, along with her Uncle Bill Owens, it was released by Goldband Records in 1959. The lyrics showcase Dolly’s ability, even at a young age, to write relatable songs. In this upbeat song, she sings about the hot and cold emotions of young love. “Girl Left Alone” written by Dolly, her Aunt Dorothy Jo Owens and Uncle Bill Owens appeared on side B.

Dolly and her grandmother, Rena Owens, took a 30-hour bus trip to the recording studio in Lake Charles, Louisiana to record the songs. Remembering that fateful journey, Dolly said:

“I don’t think I’ll ever forget the way the inside of that bus smelled. It was a combination of diesel fuel, Naugahyde, and people who were going places.”

“It’s a mystery I suppose just how long this thing goes,” he continues, adding, “There’ll be life after dark someday when we aren’t six feet apart.”

This day in 1998: Alabama chosen “America’s Favorite Band” by People Magazine Readers

Today in 1998, “People” magazine announced that Alabama was chosen by readers as America’s favorite band. In “People’s” poll of 1000 readers, Alabama came in first with 4.1% of the vote. Alabama, who first walked away with the category in 1985, barely edged out another band you might have heard of — the Beatles. In the male vocalist category, Garth came out on top in the category with 8% of the vote. George Strait nearly placed second with 3.9%, but he was one-tenth of a percent behind Elton John. And even though the rumors abound that Elvis Presley has been dead since 1977, he placed fourth — just ahead of Wynonna’s old touring and duet partner, Michael Bolton.
