Kelsea Ballerini, Brooks & Dunn & More Set For Nashville’s New Year’s Big Bash

We may only be in September, but Nashville is already making New Year’s plans. The lineup for “New Year’s Eve Live: Nashville’s Big Bash” has just been announced, featuring Brooks & Dunn, Kelsea Ballerini, Little Big Town and Zac Brown Band.

The annual concert, that takes place throughout Music City, will air December 31st, live on CBS starting at 8 pm, and will also stream live on Paramount +.

Last year’s bash lasted five hours and included almost 50 performers, with the main stage located at Nashville’s Bicentennial Capitol Mall State Park. It concludes with the drop of Nashville’s Music Note at midnight CT.

Tim McGraw Says Al Pacino Made Him Want To Be A Lawyer

Tim McGraw didn’t always want to be a country singer. In fact, the singer says that at one point he was sure he was going to be a lawyer and it was all thanks to Al Pacino.

“I wanted to be a lawyer, as long as I could remember,” he says. “In fact, I think I was 11, 12, 13 years old and I saw And Justice for All with Al Pacino. And from that point on I always wanted to be a defense attorney.”

Tim actually went to school to be a lawyer, but notes, “I picked up a guitar and started playing music, so that all went out the window.”

Dolly Parton Enlists Willie Nelson, Miley Cyrus, Jimmy Fallon & More For NBC Holiday Movie

Dolly Parton is bringing another holiday movie to NBC this season, and she’s landed a star-studded cast for it. In addition to Dolly, the film, “Dolly Parton’s Mountain Magic Christmas,” will star Tom Everett Scott, Ana Gasteyer and Angel Parker, with big names like Willie Nelson, Miley and Billy Ray Cyrus, Jimmie Allen, Jimmy Fallon and Zach Williams also set to appear.

The movie, described as a “modern-day movie musical,” follows the making of a TV special. An apparent twist on “A Christmas Carol,” the film will have Dolly “taking a private journey into her past, guided by the mysterious appearances of her personal Three Wise Mountain Men.” It inspires Dolly to show “the world that the real magic of Christmas lies in the hearts of the children we all once were, the realization that Christmas is about the people we share it with, and how her faith remains the common thread between Christmases past, present, and future.”

So far a premiere date for the film has not been revealed.

  • Today in 1988, John Denver – who wanted to ride on a Soviet spaceship – underwent an astronaut-style physical at the Johnson Space Center in Houston. Why’d he want to fly with the Russians? For years, NASA has refused to allow “civilians” on flights – saying it’s too dangerous for amateurs. One of NASA’s early attempts to put a non-professional in space ended in tragedy when school teacher Christa McAuliffe and the crew she was flying with were killed in the explosion of the Space Shuttle Challenger in 1986.   • Today in 1991, Dottie West was critically injured in a car accident while en route to perform at the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville. It seems that due to problems with her own car, Dottie had asked a neighbor to drive her to her appearance. The car crashed and reportedly went airborne for 165-feet and slammed into the center divide. Both occupants were rushed to the Vanderbilt Medical Center in critical condition. Dottie suffered severe internal injuries and through her course of treatment received 35 units of blood. Her old friend, Kenny Rogers, reportedly visited her just before surgery. He is said to have promised her that they would record another song together when she was well enough to perform again. Unfortunately, it wasn’t meant to be and she died five days later at the age of 58.
  • Today in 1991, Tanya Tucker’s single “Down To My Last Teardrop” hit the top of the country music charts.
  • Today in 1994, Alan Jackson’s “Who I Am” album was certified gold.
  • Today in 1997, one of the largest ever collections of Elvis Presley memorabilia went on sale. Some 300 lots, including stage suits, record collections and jewelry, went for about $324,000 in the one-day sale conducted simultaneously in London and Berlin. The only items that didn’t find buyers were a lock of hair snipped from Elvis’ famous sideburns in 1972, his grand piano, his army uniform and two of his glitzy 1970s stage suits. His 1960s Gretsch guitar was one of the biggest moneymakers, fetching $66,240.

Naomi Judd’s Autopsy Confirms Death By Suicide

The official report on Naomi Judd’s cause of death has been released. The autopsy report, released Friday, confirms what the family has hinted at: she committed suicide. The docs show the Judd’s matriarch shot herself. It happened a day before the group’s induction into the Country Music Hall of Fame.

In a statement to the Associated Press, the family shared “We have always shared openly both the joys of being family as well as its sorrows, too. One part of our story is that our matriarch was dogged by an unfair foe. She was treated for PTSD and bipolar disorder, to which millions of Americans can relate.”

The report also found medication in Naomi’s system consistent with PTSD and bipolar treatment.

  • Today in 1977,three people were arrested by police in Memphis, Tennessee charged with attempting to steal the body of Elvis Presley, who had been buried at the local Forest Hill cemetery a week and a half earlier. As a result of the incident, Elvis’ dad, Vernon, arranged to have the bodies of both his son and wife Gladys moved and re-buried side-by-side on the grounds of the Graceland mansion.

Kenny Chesney Shares ‘Beer With Friends,’ Featuring Old Dominion

Kenny Chesney wraps his “Here And Now” tour at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Massachusetts tonight and tomorrow, but first he’s given fans a new song. The singer just dropped the new track “Beer With Friends,” featuring his tour mates Old Dominion.

“Before the Here and Now Tour is over, we wanted to give everyone something to remember it by,” Kenny shares. “’Beer with My Friends’ featuring Old Dominion is a song that we can all sing wherever we are… and know there’s nothing like these moments we’ve shared.”

He adds, “All you gotta do is put it on, turn it up and we’ll all be right back there. Let’s kick it all off at Gillette Stadium this weekend.”
