2023 CMT Music Awards Nominations Are Out

The 2023 CMT Music Awards nominations were announced yesterday morning, and the emphasis seemed to be on newer artists this time out. Kane Brown and Kelsea Ballerini will be co-hosting this year’s awards, and is it coincidence, foresight or something else that led to both co-hosts also being multiple nominees? Since both are among the hottest country stars today – we’re sure the noms are well earned, and the two are co-hosting the event for the third straight year.

Lainey Wilson led all nominees this year with four; Kane Brown, Cody Johnson and Jelly Roll had three each.  The awards air live Sunday, April 2 on CBS from 8 pm ET to 11 pm ET. See the complete list of nominees below:

  • Today in 1948, the Nitty Gritty’s drummer and singer Jimmie Fadden was born in Long Beach, California.
  • Today in 1964, the Statler Brothers open for Johnny Cash’s show in Canton, Ohio, when the Man in Black was late. Cash added them to his touring cast for the next eight years.
  • Today in 1974, the last Saturday night performance of the Grand Ole Opry at Nashville’s Ryman Auditorium was held as the show moved the new Opryland. The Ryman had been home to the show since 1941.
  • Today in 1984, Kris Kristofferson received the first Roger Miller Memorial Award for lifetime achievement as a songwriter at the TNN/Music City News Country Songwriters Awards show.

  • Today in 2017, Old Dominion joined band member Brad Tursi for the funeral of his 30-year-old brother, Drew Tursi, at Seacoast Church in Charleston, South Carolina.

Mary Chapin Carpenter Announces Tour Dates For 2023

Mary Chapin Carpenter – 90’s country legend and multiple GRAMMY, ACM and CMA Award winner – is hitting the road for a summer tour.

Carpenter, known for the 90’s classics “I Feel Lucky,” “Shut Up And Kiss Me” and “Down At The Twist And Shout,” among many others – kicks off her tour of “intimate shows” in New Orleans June 2 before venturing west through her June 16 show in Breckenridge, Colorado. At present she’s taking July off, resuming her tour in the eastern US with two shows in Brownfield, Maine August 3-4 and wrapping up August 22 in Northampton, Massachusetts.

Sam Hunt Announces 2023 ‘Summer on the Outskirts’ Tour

Sam Hunt has announced his “Summer on the Outskirts Tour!” The tour kicks off July 6th in Hartford, Connecticut, and will visit cities across 27 different dates from Boston, Massachusetts to Mountain View California, before wrapping up on September 9th in Raleigh, North Carolina.

Hunt will be joined by Brett Young & Lily Rose along the way. Tickets go on pre-sale at 10am local time today for Verizon Up members, and 10am local time for general sale at Samhunt.com on Friday.

Dierks Bentley Announces 28-City Tour

Dierks Bentley released his newest album “Gravel and Gold” recently, and now he’s ready to promote it on the road. The country music star has just announced a new tour hitting 28 different cities.

“It’s happening! The #GravelAndGold tour is bringing country music to you this summer! And I stacked the lineup with some of my favorite artists,” Bentley shared on social media. He isn’t lying – special guests include Elle KingTracy LawrenceThe Cadillac Three, and many many more at different points on the tour.

Tickets go on sale Tuesday at 10 AM with for fanclub members, and Wednesday for general sale at Dierks.com. The tour kicks off June 1st in Toronto, Canada, and ends August 26th in Auburn, Washington.

Kelsea Ballerini Adds Ten Shows To Her ‘HEARFIRST’ Tour

Kelsea Ballerini is going to keep hitting the road. She has just announced the third leg of her “HEARTFIRST” tour starting in June.

The new leg of the tour includes 10 new shows in the United States. The third leg of the tour kicks off June 16th at the Santa Barbara Bowl, ending conclude on July 1st at Arizona Financial Theatre in Phoenix, AZ.

This day in Country Music History

  • Today in 1963, Patsy Cline, Hawkshaw Hawkins, and Cowboy Copas gave what proved to be their final show. It was a benefit for the widow of Kansas City deejay “Cactus Jack” Call. The three country stars were killed in a plane crash two days later.
