April 26th: On This Day

On this day in 2013. George Jones passed away at Vanderbilt Medical Center in Nashville. Widely regarded as one of the genre’s all-time greatest singers, the Country Music Hall of Fame member left such traditional-country landmarks as “The Grand Tour,” “The Race Is On” and “He Stopped Loving Her Today”.

For the last 20 years of his life, Jones was frequently referred to as the greatest living country singer, which wasn’t hard to believe with his more than 150 hits.

The shape of his nose and facial features earned Jones the nickname “The Possum.”
