  • Today in 1995, Alison Krauss went home four with trophies from the 29th annual Country Music Association awards, aired on CBS from Nashville’s Grand Ole Opry House: Female Vocalist of the Year; the Horizon Award; Vocal Event; and Single, for “When You Say Nothing At All.”
  • Today in 2000, Toby Keith’s “You Shouldn’t Kiss Me Like This” video debuted on CMT.
  • Today in 2002, the Dixie Chicks took home four honors in the 34th annual Country Music Association awards at Nashville’s Grand Ole Opry House, including Entertainer of the Year; Vocal Group; Album, for “Fly”; and Music Video, for “Goodbye Earl.”
  • Today in 2001, the Country Music Hall of Fame inducts 12 new members: The Everly Brothers, Sam Phillips, Bill Anderson, The Louvins, The Jordanaires, The Delmore Brothers, Webb Pierce, Don Law, Ken Nelson, Don Gibson, Waylon Jennings and Homer & Jethro.

  • Today in 2016, Vince Gill performed “Go Rest High On That Mountain” and “You’ve Got A Friend” during the funeral for professional golfer Arnold Palmer at Saint Vincent College in Latrobe, Pennsylvania. Mourners included fellow golf pros Jack Nicklaus, Lee Trevino and Phil Mickelson.

  • Today in 2016, Elle King made her Grand Ole Opry debut. She was joined by Dierks Bentley for performances of “Different For Girls” and “Jackson.”
  • Today in 2016, Tim McGraw & Faith Hill played a show at the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville that was promoted as “Sam & Audrey.” The set list included “It’s Your Love,” “Mississippi Girl,” “This Kiss,” “Angry All The Time” and “Humble And Kind,” the latter in front of the woman who wrote it, Lori McKenna.
  • Today in 2018, Anita Cochran fell on a rainy sidewalk in New York, cracking two ribs. Ever the trooper, she still performed on ABC’s “Good Morning, America” the next morning! The song? Her amazing (and aptly titled) hit, “Fight Like A Girl.”
  • Today in 2018, Carrie Underwood and her hubby, Mike Fisher, hosted a benefit for Danita’s Children in Franklin, Tennessee. Brad Paisley performed during the event, which raised $600-thousand for Haitian youth.
  • Today in 2018, Runaway June’s Hannah Mulholland marries drummer Ian Jay in California – they eloped!
