GARTH BROOKS RECEIVES KENNEDY CENTER HONORS

Garth Brooks Receives Kennedy Center Honors

Garth Brooks is excited — he was honored at the “Kennedy Center Honors” on May 21! He was honored alongside Dick Van Dyke, Debbie Allen, Joan Baez, and Midori. This ceremony had been delayed from December 2020 due to COVID-19.

Brooks shared a picture to Instagram with his new medallion and with wife Trisha Yearwood, both of them all smiles. He captioned it by writing, “To loosely quote Maya Angelou, I stand here as one but I stand here for the people who have carried me to this point. Grateful!

Yearwood is also opening up in this week’s “PEOPLE” about figuring out how she would fit into the lives of Brooks’ three daughters after they got married.

“I had a dog before I married Garth but no children of my own. I never even really babysat! So I didn’t know what to do with three young girls. Garth was such a wonderful mentor to me as to how to be a parent, and he told me, ‘You’ll find your way with each of them. Don’t try to be their best friend, and don’t try to be their mom…..’ They let me learn my way and allowed me to be that third parent in their lives. They were a gift that I didn’t know I needed. I didn’t know how much children brought into your life until I got a chance to be a part of their lives.”
