OHS CELEBRATES VETERANS DAY

OHS celebrates Veterans Day

Veterans Day celebrations were held across America Monday (11/11).  Oskaloosa High School was one place where veterans were honored.  Oskaloosa student Aiden Scott spoke about a trip to Normandy he and several classmates took during this summer’s 75th anniversary of D-Day….and the chance they had to speak to veterans who took part in the invasion of Normandy.

“These men were humble.  They never called themselves heroes.  We were fortunate on June 7, the day after the ceremony, to talk to some of the World War II veterans. The veterans said that they weren’t the heroes….that the heroes were the ones who gave the ultimate sacrifice–their lives.”

Chaplain Tim Hadley from Pekin, the guest speaker, said “Veterans Day isn’t just about veterans, but is about Americans.  It is a day to remember why they were fighting and a day for all of us to begin our journey of protecting our freedoms and the freedom of many future generations.”
