Fans dressing up to see Ella Langley, Kameron Marlowe and Laci Kaye Booth in Tulsa Oklahoma Friday got some bad news just hours before showtime. On her Instagram Story, Langley wrote, “Due to a serious security threat involving the safety of my fans, the venue staff, and my team, the incredibly difficult decision was made to cancel tonight’s show. This decision was made under the advisement of local authorities, the venue, and my security team.” She added, “I know how much time, travel, money, and planning goes into coming to a show, and I can’t tell you how sorry I am. This is not a decision that was made lightly. I was so looking forward to spending tonight with you, but your safety will always mean more to me than anything else. I refuse to put anyone in harm’s way.
Tulsa PD’s Captain Richard G. Meulenberg IV noted in a followup statement that it was Langley’s team who made the decision to cancel the show. After doing a standard pre-sweep with BOK Center and bomb-sniffing dogs, Meulenberg explained “a call came in saying that someone’s going to do great harm to the people here at this event,” which could include gunshots or an explosion. “So, we came out again in an over abundance of caution, used our bomb dogs again, searched the entire area,” said Meulenberg. “We could not find a credible threat here at the BOK Center.”
The next night, at her show in Lubbock, Texas, Ella explained her decision to the crowd. “I was put in charge of a decision for 15-thousand people and I decided to make the decision that I could live with the rest of my life. Because a concert’s not worth a human life. It’s not,” she said. “So I would have made yesterday’s decision 10-billion times over. And I’d do it tomorrow and I’d do it the next day.”
