Chris Stapleton appeared with Tom Petty’s Heartbreakers at the Americana Awards. The band performed three songs: “American Girl,” which featured guitarist Mike Campbell on lead vocals; “Breakdown,” which saw Stapleton take the mic; and “You Wreck Me,” which featured the band’s original lineup along with two more recent additions, Steve Ferrone and Scott Thurston.

After the performance, Stapleton presented the band the Americana Lifetime Achievement Award, saying, “This year marks the 50th anniversary of Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers. Words cannot express how much that catalog of music means to me, but also to the world. It transcends genre, it transcends Americana, it transcends lots of things. It heals and it makes you feel good and it makes you want to drive too fast.
