OSKALOOSA – The Oskaloosa Police Department provided an update to residents about door-to-door solicitors in the city.

The department shared on social media that several contractors representing R3 Roofing have now completed the city’s peddler permit process and have been issued individual permits to conduct door-to-door solicitation within city limits. The department previously advised that these contractors, along with individuals representing Fox Pest Control, did not have a peddler’s permit in early July.

Residents should be aware that a permit allows a representative to solicit; it does not constitute an endorsement of the company or its services by the city.

Permitted peddlers are expected to:

• Carry and display their city-issued permit upon request
• Respect posted “No Soliciting” and “No Trespassing” signs
• End the conversation when a resident says they are not interested
• Leave the property immediately when asked
• Avoid repeating knocking, aggressive sales tactics, intimidation, or continued pressure
• Refrain from making false or misleading statements about roof damage, insurance claims, deadlines, or required repairs

Residents are never required to open the door, listen to a sales presentation, provide personal information, sign paperwork, or allow anyone to inspect their property. The Oskaloosa Police Department asks that residents contact them if any peddler:

• Cannot produce a valid city permit
• Ignores a posted sign
• Refuses to leave
• Continues after being told “no”
• Becomes aggressive or intimidating
• Engages in conduct that appears deceptive or inappropriate

The Oskaloosa Police Department says they will continue monitoring complaints and addressing violations as appropriate.
