OTTUMWA – An Ottumwa woman was arrested for allegedly causing damage to the exterior of a residence, and faces additional charges for assaulting a jailer.

According to court documents, 32-year-old Felicia Baxter approached a residence in the 100 block of North Davis Street in Ottumwa on Saturday, July 18, at around 3:30 PM. Baxter knocked on the door of the residence, but an occupant of the home later stated that she was sleeping at the time.

After nobody answered the door, Baxter reportedly became upset and retrieved a shovel; she then allegedly broke a window of the residence and struck the front door with the shovel, leaving dents in the door and breaking off the doorknob.

Baxter was arrested after this incident and transported to the Wapello County Jail. As she was being booked, court documents state that Baxter again became upset and attempted to break different pieces of equipment in the jail, and when a jailer intervened, police say she struck him multiple times in the groin.

Baxter now faces charges of 4th Degree Criminal Mischief (serious misdemeanor) and Assault on Persons in Certain Occupations (aggravated misdemeanor). She remains in custody in the Wapello County Jail.
