KEOKUK COUNTY – Five people were injured in a 3-vehicle accident in Keokuk County yesterday afternoon that involved a Mahaska County Sheriff’s Office transport vehicle.
According to the Iowa State Patrol, the accident occurred at around 12:22pm yesterday. 32-year-old Sabrina Ryan of What Cheer was driving a 2026 Dodge Durango southbound on Highway 21 and was stopped at a stop sign at the intersection with Highway 92. Her vehicle departed the stop sign and was struck by a Mahaska County Sheriff’s Office transport vehicle, a 2019 Dodge Charger driven by 34-year-old Megan Tucker of Oskaloosa. The crash caused the Durango to slide into a third vehicle, a Peterbilt semi truck driven by 44-year-old Mark Harvey of Albia.
The accident resulted in injuries to both Ryan and Tucker, as well as 47-year-old Dawn Nickel of Ottumwa, and a 2-year-old child and a 5-year-old child, both of whom were from What Cheer. All parties involved were wearing seatbelts and all of the injured individuals were transported to Mahaska Health, with the exception of Nickel, who was transported to the University of Iowa Hospital.
This accident remains under investigation.
