MOULTON – A shooting in Moulton yesterday left four people injured, including the suspected shooter.
According to the Appanoose County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were dispatched to a residence at 212 E Third St. in Moulton yesterday afternoon at approximately 2:27pm after receiving a 911 call. The caller reported that 3 people had been shot.
Deputies found the suspected shooter at the intersection of Eighth Street and Main Street soon afterward. The suspect was a 17-year-old male who was believed to be a resident of 212 E Third St, and he appeared to be injured when he was found by authorities. He was taken into custody before being airlifted to a hospital in Iowa City.
Law enforcement then returned to the residence, where there were three people suffering from gunshot wounds; the victims were described as having serious injuries, but none were considered to be life-threatening. Two of the three victims were airlifted to a hospital in Des Moines, while the third was transported to a hospital in Centerville.
An investigation by authorities later revealed that the nine people were inside the residence at the time of the shooting, including 5 adults and 4 juveniles. The shooting was believed to have occurred as a result of a domestic dispute involving family members. None of the juveniles who were present were injured, aside from the suspected 17-year-old shooter, and officials say that there is no ongoing threat to the Moulton community.
This incident remains under investigation by the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation, the Iowa State Patrol, the Appanoose County Sheriff’s Office, and the Centerville Police Department.
