Dolly Parton Enlists Willie Nelson, Miley Cyrus, Jimmy Fallon & More For NBC Holiday Movie

Dolly Parton is bringing another holiday movie to NBC this season, and she’s landed a star-studded cast for it. In addition to Dolly, the film, “Dolly Parton’s Mountain Magic Christmas,” will star Tom Everett Scott, Ana Gasteyer and Angel Parker, with big names like Willie Nelson, Miley and Billy Ray Cyrus, Jimmie Allen, Jimmy Fallon and Zach Williams also set to appear.

The movie, described as a “modern-day movie musical,” follows the making of a TV special. An apparent twist on “A Christmas Carol,” the film will have Dolly “taking a private journey into her past, guided by the mysterious appearances of her personal Three Wise Mountain Men.” It inspires Dolly to show “the world that the real magic of Christmas lies in the hearts of the children we all once were, the realization that Christmas is about the people we share it with, and how her faith remains the common thread between Christmases past, present, and future.”

So far a premiere date for the film has not been revealed.

For years, NASA has refused to allow “civilians” on flights – saying it’s too dangerous for amateurs. One of NASA’s early attempts to put a non-professional in space ended in tragedy when school teacher Christa McAuliffe and the crew she was flying with were killed in the explosion of the Space Shuttle Challenger in 1986. Last year, zillionaire Dennis Tito became the first “space tourist” when he shelled out $20-million to the Russians for a trip to the International Space Station.

It seems that due to problems with her own car, Dottie had asked a neighbor to drive her to her appearance. The car crashed and reportedly went airborne for 165-feet and slammed into the center divide. Both occupants were rushed to the Vanderbilt Medical Center in critical condition. Dottie suffered severe internal injuries and through her course of treatment received 35 units of blood. Her old friend, Kenny Rogers, reportedly visited her just before surgery. He is said to have promised her that they would record another song together when she was well enough to perform again. Unfortunately, it wasn’t meant to be and she died five days later at the age of 58.

Some 300 lots, including stage suits, record collections and jewelry, went for about $324,000 in the one-day sale conducted simultaneously in London and Berlin. The only items that didn’t find buyers were a lock of hair snipped from Elvis’ famous sideburns in 1972, his grand piano, his army uniform and two of his glitzy 1970s stage suits. His 1960s Gretsch guitar was one of the biggest moneymakers, fetching $66,240.

Leaks and possible crack threaten to delay NASA moon launch

CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. (AP) — Fuel leaks and a possible crack discovered during final liftoff preparations are threatening to delay the launch of NASA’s mighty new moon rocket Monday on its shakedown flight with three test dummies aboard. As precious minutes ticked away, NASA repeatedly stopped and started the fueling of the Space Launch System rocket with nearly 1 million gallons of super-cold hydrogen and oxygen because of a leak. Later in the morning, a possible crack or some other defect was spotted. The rocket is set to lift off on a mission to put a crew capsule into orbit around the moon. The launch represents a major milestone in America’s quest to put astronauts back on the moon for the first time since the Apollo program ended 50 years ago.

Suicide Prevention Program Available to Farmers, Agribusiness This Fall

AMES, Iowa – Although Iowa farmers can get ready for fall harvest, the stress they may face this time of year can be harder to prepare for. Weather extremes, labor challenges and time pressures can compound financial concerns like lower crop prices, higher input costs and larger debt burdens. The stress can be overwhelming. In response, Iowa State University Extension and Outreach is continuing to offer virtual and in-person “Question. Persuade. Refer.” trainings, also known as QPR.

“QPR is a suicide prevention program that teaches participants how to recognize the warning signs of suicidal thoughts, and how to ask someone whether they are thinking about suicide,” stated Demi Johnson, behavioral health program specialist with ISU Extension and Outreach. “Participants also learn how to persuade someone to get help and how to refer them to appropriate help.”

ISU Extension and Outreach is offering QPR during September, which is National Suicide Prevention Month, and throughout the fall. ISU Extension and Outreach will offer virtual QPR classes from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. on the following dates: Sept. 7, 14, 19, 21 and 28; Oct. 3 and 19; Nov. 2 and 16; and Dec. 14. Private classes for groups of 15-30 participants are also available upon request. Pre-registration is required for all programs. To register, go to https://www.extension.iastate.edu/humansciences/QPR. The USDA National Institute of Food and Agriculture, award #2020-70028-32728, funds this program.

“We encourage farmers, agribusiness professionals and others to participate in the training. Those who have already taken QPR might chose to take the class again as a refresher. This offers previous participants an opportunity to improve their knowledge, skill and effectiveness if they need to respond to someone they may be concerned about,” Johnson said.

For more information, contact Demi Johnson at demij@iastate.edu.

Sen. Chuck Grassley Visits Sigourney for Q&A

On Friday, Iowa senator Chuck Grassley held a community Q&A at Barn Wired in Sigourney, and answered questions on topics ranging from education to health care to the student debt crisis. One of the topics Senator Grassley discussed was the ongoing debate about capping insulin prices. Grassley explained that his opposition to a bill passed by the Democrats that would have capped insulin prices at $35 was related to a lack of language regarding pharmaceutical benefit managers, or PBMs.

Grassley is running for his eighth term in the US senate this year and is currently opposed by Democrat Mike Franken. Most recent polling data showed Grassley having roughly an 8 point lead in the race.

Naomi Judd’s Autopsy Confirms Death By Suicide

The official report on Naomi Judd’s cause of death has been released. The autopsy report, released Friday, confirms what the family has hinted at: she committed suicide. The docs show the Judd’s matriarch shot herself. It happened a day before the group’s induction into the Country Music Hall of Fame.

In a statement to the Associated Press, the family shared “We have always shared openly both the joys of being family as well as its sorrows, too. One part of our story is that our matriarch was dogged by an unfair foe. She was treated for PTSD and bipolar disorder, to which millions of Americans can relate.”

The report also found medication in Naomi’s system consistent with PTSD and bipolar treatment.

If you or someone you know is considering suicide, please contact the 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline by dialing 988, text “STRENGTH” to the Crisis Text Line at 741741 or go to 988lifeline.org.
