Officers Seize More Than 100 pounds Of Pot In Davenport

DAVENPORT, Iowa (AP) — Authorities say officers have seized more than 100 pounds of marijuana from the home of a man in Davenport.

Online court records say 37-year-old Nathan Hall is scheduled to be arraigned Dec. 8 on two felony drug charges. His attorney declined to comment Monday morning.

Police say they found the marijuana, a scale, packaging material and nearly $8,000 in cash during a search of Hall’s home last week.

Breaking: Dan Smyers Gets Engaged

Congratulations to Dan + Shay’s Dan Smyers, who recently got engaged to his longtime girlfriend, Abby Law. Smyers announced the exciting news on Friday afternoon (11/18), posting an Instagram photo of him with his new fiancée in Hawaii.  In the picture, Abby proudly shows off her new bling as a rainbow appears in the background behind them.  Dan said in the caption for the photo, “We’re gonna save all the animals together, FOREVER. I love you, ABBY LAW! (And yes, the HAWAII rainbow is real.)”

 

·         Law later posted a photo of the two sharing a kiss on Waikiki Beach along with a heartfelt message about Smyers.

Iowa Man Found Guilty Of Kidnapping In Attack On Girlfriend

BURLINGTON, Iowa (AP) — A Burlington man accused of using a machete and skateboard to attack his 16-year-old girlfriend has been convicted of kidnapping and willful injury in the case.

The Hawk Eye reports (http://bit.ly/2g6lr2r ) that 21-year-old Dakota Poland was found guilty Friday of the counts and now faces a mandatory sentence of life in prison without parole.

Poland is set to be sentenced on Jan. 6.

Prosecutors say Poland attacked the girl March 10 when she was moving out of his parents’ home, where she often stayed. Court records say he wouldn’t let her leave and punched and kicked her and used the machete, skateboard, and a glass ashtray to inflict more injuries. Poland’s mother intervened, and his father took the girl to a hospital.

The song would win Song of the Year at the 2012 ACM Awards, as well as be Certified Double-Platinum by the RIAA.

Carrie Underwood Shows Off Mommy Multi-Tasking Skills

Carrie Underwood puts a lot of effort into looking her best for her shows every night, but she won’t let those performances get in the way of her duties as a mom either. On Wednesday night (11/16), while in Tampa, Florida, for a stop on her “Storyteller Tour,” Carrie posted a black-and-white photo on Instagram that showed her son Isaiah sitting on her lap as she got ready in front of a mirror.

 

·       Carrie said in the caption for the adorable picture, “He doesn’t care that Mommy had to get ready for a show…all he knows is that he woke up cranky from his nap and needed a cuddle…and I was more than happy to comply.”

·       The “Storyteller Tour” will pick back up next week with shows in Wichita, Kansas, on November 22 and Oklahoma City on November 23.

 

Iowa Law Enforcement To Focus On Seat Belt Use Over Holiday

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — Numerous Iowa law enforcement agencies will participate in special Thanksgiving holiday traffic enforcement effort next week.

The Iowa Governor’s Traffic Safety Bureau enforcement program begins Sunday and runs through Nov. 27 and will coincide with a nationwide “Click It or Ticket” campaign. The goal of the campaign is to increase the awareness of and compliance with Iowa’s seat belt and child restraint laws.

This year alone, Iowa has seen more than 335 traffic fatalities, and nearly half of those involved people not wearing a seat belt.

Over the 2015 holiday, five people were killed on Iowa roads.

Next stop Ford Championship Weekend At Homestead-Miami Speedway which will feature Sunday’s season-ending Ford EcoBoost 400, where NASCAR will crown its sixty-eighth Cup Series champion. The 2016 Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup concludes with the four-hundred- mile event, in which The Championship Four – Kyle Busch, Carl Edwards, Jimmie Johnson and Joey Logano – will vie for the title that goes to the highest-finishing driver in that group … For Johnson, it’s a chance to win what would be a record-tying seventh Cup Series crown that would match Hall of Fame drivers Dale Earnhardt and Richard Petty.

Johnson entered the post-season as only the Number-8 seed but steered his way into title contention with victories in Charlotte and at Martinsville Speedway … Kyle Busch entered the post-season as the Number-1 seed and is bidding to become the first driver with back-to- back Cup Series titles since Johnson strung five in a row together from 2006 through 2010 … Edwards and Logano are still hunting for their first Cup Series crown.

Edwards has finished second twice, in 2008 and 2011. Logano’s best championship finish is fourth two seasons ago.

Darius Rucker Records “Life On The Line” Theme Song

Darius Rucker has joined forces with British artist Fiona Culley to record the theme song for Life on the Line, a new motion picture that opens in limited markets across the country today (11/18). Culley and Rucker, who served as co-writers on the song, can be seen recording the track together in the film’s music video and trailer.

 

·       Starring John Travolta, Kate Bosworth and Sharon Stone, Life on the Line follows a crew of men who risk their lives to keep an electrical grid running during a storm.
