MHP Updates Public with Leadership

Jay Christensen is stepping down as CEO of Mahaska Health Partnership, effective immediately.

Christensen led the Hospital as CEO for 18 years. He was involved in several building and expansion projects, including the Hospice Serenity House, the clinic addition and the new Patient Care Wing, opened in 2013, which houses Inpatient Services, Surgical Services and the Birthing Center.

“The Board of Trustees is appreciative of Jay’s many years of service, but believes this change is in the best interest of the hospital,” said MHP Board of Trustees Chair David Langkamp. “Given the rapidly changing healthcare landscape, the Board decided a change in leadership now will put MHP in the best position moving forward to continue to serve the healthcare needs of Mahaska County and the surrounding communities.”

“The Senior Team Leaders are working together with other leadership during this time of transition at MHP,” Langkamp said. “They, along with the MHP Board of Trustees, are confident that MHP will move forward and become an even stronger healthcare organization.

“We are continuing our efforts at physician recruitment and remain focused on providing high quality patient care to the communities we serve.”

Mahaska Health Partnership CEO Takes Leave

The Mahaska Health Partnership Board of Trustees announced that CEO Jay Christensen has taken an extended leave of absence effective Tuesday, September 19th.

Board President David Langkamp stated it’s business as usual at the hospital. “We have tremendous people working at MHP. The Executive Team will continue to oversee day-to-day operations with consultation from the Board of Trustees.

“Mahaska Health Partnership providers and staff remain committed to our community’s health and well-being and will continue to focus on maintaining a strong health center in Oskaloosa,” Langkamp stressed.

Mahaska Health Partnership to offer Free Diabetes Support Group

Are you living with diabetes and struggling with how to handle it?

Mahaska Health Partnership is offering assistance through a free support group focused on managing symptoms and coping with diabetes care at home.

According to the American Diabetes Association, approximately 30 million children and adults have diabetes, with close to 95{99cd714f394079a7f0ed2eb1518dd31342ff3ceb5b6c267c3ad8acd5b5a7d66b} of those being afflicted with type 2 diabetes. “Diabetes can be a scary diagnoses for many individuals,” MHP Registered Nurse and Certified Diabetes Educator
Sharon Ferguson shared. “This support group is designed to help those struggling with diabetes to learn coping skills among their peers in a relaxed environment.”

The next support group will be held on Thursday, Nov. 5 from 5:00 – 6:00 pm in the Cedar Bluff Learning Center on the MHP Campus (entrance #3). The key topic will be healthy holiday eating.

“With the holidays right around the corner, now is the time to start thinking about healthier options,” Ferguson encouraged. “There are simple tricks that can be used to make your favorite treats less of a burden on your regular diet, without altering the taste much, if at all! The
holidays should be a time to focus on spending time with your loved ones, not stressing about managing your diabetes.”
