Ottumwa Noon Lions New Member Induction Ceremony

On Thursday, April 12, Ottumwa Noon Lions will be hosting their annual New Member Induction Ceremony. The annual event is a celebration following the annual member drive. This year three new members will be inducted into this outstanding organization. A social will begin at 5:30 PM followed by dinner at the KC Hall. The new members will be welcomed.

Ottumwa Park Campgrounds Open April 1

The Ottumwa Park Campground will open for the season on April 1, 2018. The Ottumwa Park Campground is set amidst 340 acres of green space and lagoons providing an ideal place for enjoying the outdoors. Campsites with nearby paved trail access, four stocked fishing ponds and the Des Moines River and adjacent Wapello County Trails. All camping is available on a first-come, first-service basis.  Sorry, no reservations are taken. No tents are allowed in the RV Section of the campground. Campers can use the shower house with restrooms and dumping station. Wi-fi is available.

Central College Women’s Golf Opens Season

The Central College women’s golf team opened its spring season at the Mike “Fluff” Cowan Women’s Invitational hosted by William Penn University on Tuesday, March 27.

The Dutch finished runner-up with an 18-hole total of 324. Tournament host William Penn won the event posting a 307 on its home course, Edmundson Golf Course.

Junior Brittany Coppess (Clinton) was the top performer for the Dutch with a 77, senior Molly Timmerman (Dubuque) was next with an 80, sophomore Emily Opsal (Verona, Wis., Verona Area HS) shot 83, senior Cierra Pulse (Stronghurst, Ill., West Central HS) carded an 84 and sophomore Lexie Patton (Aurelia, Alta-Aurelia HS) finished with an 85.

Next on tap for the Dutch is a triangular against Wartburg College and Luther College at Otter Creek Golf Course in Ankeny April 14-15.

U.S. Senator Ernst to Visit Sigourney

U.S. Senator Joni Ernst (R-IA) announced she will hold a town meeting in Keokuk County as part of her 99 county tour to hear from constituents in the area about the issues most important to them. This town meeting is open to the public on Tuesday, April 3, 2018 at 1:30 PM CT in the Memorial Hall, located at 120 North Jefferson Street in Sigourney, IA.

Infant Death Investigation Underway in Washington County

(WASHINGTON COUNTY, Iowa) – On March 24, 2018 at approximately 10:23 AM, the Washington County Communications Center received a report of an infant that had stopped breathing at a residence in rural Ainsworth. The infant was taken to Washington County Hospital and Clinics, where the infant was pronounced dead. An autopsy is being performed by the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics Decedent Care Center.

This incident remains under investigation by the Washington County Sheriff’s Office and the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation. No further comment on this case will be made until the investigation is concluded.

Oskaloosa Women’s Connection Monthly Dinner

The Oskaloosa Women’s Connection (OWC) invites all women to join the group at the Peppertree in Oskaloosa for their monthly dinner on Monday, April 9 at 6:30 PM. The speakers will be Nicollete Lane, Steve Dixson, along with some of his students. whom will talk about and demonstrate robotics. Music will be provided by Andy Fuller. Oskaloosa Clean Up Days

Clean-up days in Oskaloosa will be held April 2-5, 2018. Items must be placed on the curb or edge of the property by 7:00 AM on the morning of pickup for that area for town. Each quadrant will only be picked up on the day scheduled. The event is open to all Oskaloosa residents. The City will be divided into four quadrants:

  • The southeast quadrant – south of A Avenue East and east of South Market – will be picked up on Monday, April 2;
  • The northeast quadrant – north of A Avenue East and east of North Market Street – will be picked up on Tuesday, April 3;
  • The northwest quadrant – north of A Avenue West and west of North Market Street – will be picked up on Wednesday, April 4;
  • The southwest quadrant – south of A Avenue West and west of South Market Street – will be picked up on Thursday, April 5.
