Dolly Parton has added a second Nashville show at the Ryman auditorium. Her newly added date will be on August 1st, the day after her recently announced Dustin Wells Foundation Gift of Music Benefit Concert. The new “Dolly Parton, Pure & Simple” date will benefit the Opry Trust Fund.

On this day in 1984, Rhinestone, Starring Dolly Parton and Sylvester Stallone, premiered at Nashville’s Roy Acuff Theater. Rhinestone is a musical comedy film where Parton tries to turn Stallone into a country sensation.
Though the film was panned upon its release, it gave Dolly two top ten country singles: “Tennessee Homesick Blues” and “God Won’t Get You.”

On this day in 1973, Dolly Parton recorded “Jolene” during the afternoon at RCA Studio B in Nashville. . Parton released the track in October 1973 as the first single from her album of the same name.
“Jolene” reached number one on the Billboard Country Chart, and was ranked No. 217 on Rolling Stone magazine’s list of “the 500 Greatest Songs of All Time” in 2004.
