MUSIC CONCERTS AT CENTRAL THIS SPRING

Music Concerts at Central This Spring

PELLA — Central College music programs will perform throughout April. The public has many opportunities to enjoy musical ensemble concerts and recitals, all free.

The A Cappella Choir and Chamber Singers will perform at 3 p.m., Sunday, April 14, Douwstra Auditorium. Mark Babcock, M. Joan Kuyper Farver Endowed Chair in Music and professor of music and Class of 1991 Central graduate, directs the choirs.

Central’s ALMA will share music at 8 p.m. Friday, April 19, Cox-Snow Recital Hall. Gabriel Espinosa, associate professor emeritus of music and Class of 1979 Central graduate, directs the show.

Symphonic Wind Ensemble, Flying Pans Steel Drum Band and the Percussion Ensemble will have a concert at 7 p.m. Saturday, April 20, Douwstra Auditorium. Brad Lampe, lecturer of music, directs Symphonic Wind Ensemble, and Stan Dahl, senior lecturer of music, directs Flying Pans Steel Drum Band and the Percussion Ensemble.

As the semester ends the Student Recital will highlight music students’ talents. This year the recital will feature compositions by Quintin Hull, Class of 2026 music major. He will perform his own piece for piano and the Central Chamber Singers will perform one of his pieces. Sean Stephenson, assistant professor of music, coordinates the performers and Kris DeWild, Class of 1990, will accompany the performers on the piano. The student recital performance begins at 3 p.m. Tuesday, April 23, in Douwstra Auditorium.

The College Community Orchestra Concert will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 30, in Douwstra Auditorium. Phil Peters, adjunct faculty, directs the orchestra.

Each April, Central seniors give their final recitals that are open to the public. The performers include:

  • Kamryn Waymire, musical theatre major from Elk Horn, Iowa, at 3 p.m. Saturday, April 13, Cox-Snow Recital Hall.
  • Logan Fehlhafer, music major from Sioux Center, Iowa, at 3 p.m. Saturday, April 20, Cox-Snow Recital Hall.
  • Jenna Brady, music education – vocal major from Urbandale, Iowa, at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, April 27, Cox-Snow Recital Hall.
  • John Hemphill, computer science and music major from Ankeny, Iowa, at 7 p.m. Sunday, April 28, Cox-Snow Recital Hall.

The ensemble concerts and recitals will be livestreamed on the Central Dutch Network.
