Pella Hands Oskaloosa Loss In Final Dual Of Regular Season

Despite winning just two contested matches Pella handed Oskaloosa a 42-29 loss in both teams’ final duals of the regular season last night.  It was also the final home meet of the season for Osky and parent’s night was celebrated before the dual got underway.  Osky started out hot winning the first four contested matches with three falls and a decision, however the Indians spotted Pella 30 points due to open weight forefits.   Tyson Breuklander at 195 won by fall in 5:53,  Callan Tomlin at 220 recorded a quick fall in :53 and Josh Diehl barely broke a sweat at 120 winning by fall in just :20.   Talon Munger earned a 7-1 decision at 126,   Drew Sams won by technical fall 16-1 early into the second period at 138 and Jason Beebe fought for a 13-9 decision win at 170.  Pella only won two of the seven contested matches as Ethan Speltz at 132 and James Van Gorp at 160 each won by fall.  Both teams have the next nine days off to prepare for their Class 3A District Tournaments on Saturday February 13th.  Pella travels to Johnston for their District meet where they will join Ankeny Centennial, Carlisle, Des Moines East, Des Moines Lincoln, Dowling Catholic, Indianola and Johnston.  Oskaloosa travels to Burlington for their District where they will compete against Burlington, Iowa City High, Iowa City West, Fort Madison, Keokuk and Ottumwa and Mount Pleasant.  Both meets start at Noon and the top two finishers in each weight class from each District will advance to the State Wrestling Tournament February 18-20.  You can hear live reports throughout the afternoon on February 13th following Oskaloosa and Ottumwa from Burlington plus we’ll bring you live coverage of the Championship round and wrestle backs to determine State qualifiers with Jamie Brockman and Brett Sams on 99.5 FM/740 AM KMZN as well as radiokmzn.com and the KMZN mobile app.
