INDIANS TO CLOSELY WATCH PITCHERS

Indians to closely watch pitchers

With Iowa’s high school baseball season being abbreviated due to the coronavirus….and with the preparation time for the season being shortened….baseball coaches are going to keep a closer eye on their pitchers when the season begins Monday (6/15).  While the Iowa High School Athletic Association already has limits on how many pitches someone can throw in a game and a given week, Oskaloosa High Coach Bill Almond says he’ll have a shorter leash for his pitchers.

“I’m going to limit my guys. I have a number in mind that I’m going to keep them at, and we’re going to stay at that number all the way through ’til the end.  I’m going to get them all ready, arms will be strong to the end (of the season).”

The Indians’ pitching staff will be led by senior Colton Butler, who won six games last season, senior Noah Van Veldhuizen, who was second on the team in strikeouts with 67, and seniors Wyatt Krier and Tyler Miller.  Oskaloosa’s baseball opener is Monday night at home against Pella Christian.  KBOE-FM’s first Indians baseball broadcast will be June 19 when Oskaloosa plays at Dallas Center-Grimes.
