SECOND GUILTY PLEA IN SHAFER DEATH

Second guilty plea in Shafer death

An Oskaloosa woman is the second person to plead guilty in connection with the death of Ashley Shafer last August.  Holly Kelly pleaded guilty in Mahaska County Court to a misdemeanor count of obstructing prosecution in Shafer’s death.  Last month, her husband, Nicolas Kelly, pleaded guilty to abuse of a corpse.  Each of the Kellys received a suspended sentence.  The Kellys have testified that Shafer was in their apartment last August when she overdosed on meth.  The Kellys have agreed to testify against Cody Vancenbrock, who allegedly gave Shafer the fatal dose of meth.  Vancenbrock’s trial is scheduled for April.
