A man from Newton was sentenced to seven years in prison for being a felon in possession of a firearm. After 35-year-old Bryan Curtis Odem finishes his 84 month sentence, he’ll be on supervised release for three years. Prosecutors say that last July 14, Odem had a Smith and Wesson 9 millimeter pistol and ammunition, which he got during an altercation. Odem then allegedly struck an individual and left the scene with a firearm belonging to the victim. That incident happened 24 hours after Odem had been released from prison after serving time on a federal firearms conviction.
