Two Ottumwa students hit by a car on their way to school

Two students were injured while they were walking to school Wednesday morning in Ottumwa.  Ottumwa Police say the two, ages 12 and 7, were walking east in the 1100 block of Mary Street around 7:30am, when they stepped into the road and were hit.  The driver, who knew the two children, took the 12-year-old to the juvenile’s home.  That child was then taken to Ottumwa Regional Health Center by ambulance and then taken to another hospital.  The 7-year-old continued to school.  Police contacted the child and the child was taken to Ottumwa Regional Medical Center to be evaluated.  The driver, 21-year-old Tyler Michael Garr of Ottumwa, was arrested and charged with driving while barred and not having insurance.  Garr is free on bond.
