VANDENBERG, GIRDLEY AND KINCAID TAKE CHECKERS FIRST ON COMMUNITY 1ST CREDIT UNION NIGHT

VanDenBerg, Girdley and Kincaid Take Checkers First on Community 1st Credit Union Night

What a night of racing on Community 1st Credit Union and KIIC Thunder Country 96.7 Night, there was some very close and exciting finishes. 76 drivers signed in to tame the monster meanwhile this week also meant the start to the Community 1st Credit Union Kids Club, where the youngsters will be doing activities before the races each night through the rest of the season.

Carter VanDenBerg (IMCA Modifieds), Jon Girdley (IMCA Sport Compacts) and Mike Kincaid (IMCA Hobby Stocks), all first-time winners at Osky. Also winning was Jason McDaniel (IMCA SportMods) and Zack Vanderbeek (IMCA Stock Cars).

Jon Girdley inherited the pole postition in the 12 lap IMCA Sport Compacts feature after the initial pole starter William Michel was unable to make the call. Girdley took advantage by grabbing the top spot but held several challenges by John Whalen early. Girdley was not fazed and went on to take his 1st win at Osky over John Whalen, Bill Whalen, Curt Myers and Troy Wonders.

Jason See grabbed the lead early in the Budweiser IMCA Stock Car 18 lap feature event meanwhile Zack Vanderbeek worked his way from sixth to fourth by lap one. Vanderbeek worked his way to second by lap three and took the lead away on lap four. Vanderbeek saw Todd Reitzler and Nathan Wood take second and third by lap six. Vanderbeek went on to take his third win of the season at Osky over Cayden Carter, who worked his way from 12th. Damon Murty came from 17th to finish third, Wood was fourth and Todd Phillips was fifth.

Up next was the Pepsi Cola IMCA Hobby Stocks 15 lap feature and it was full of excitement. Before a lap was completed the caution came out though when Jared Stephens spun on the front-stretch. When the race got going it was Mike Kincaid taking the top spot but it was not easy as Aaron Martin was in tow. Martin led lap three before Kincaid again grabbed it back on lap four just before the caution came out for Christian Huffman in turn two. Craig Brown took second away from Martin. Brown edged out Kincaid on lap 12 but Kincaid led again on lap 13 and Brown on lap 14. Brown and Kincaid race side-by-side the final lap and it was Kincaid winning his 1st at Osky by mere inches at the line. Brown finished a very close second, Martin was third, Danny Thrasher was fourth and Steve Allen was fifth.

After the initial start was called off in the Musco Lighting IMCA Modifieds 18 lap feature event it was Scott Dickey nabbing the lead. Dickey held off challenges early from Carter VanDenBerg but by the time lap five rolled around, VanDenBerg took the lead away. VanDenBerg went on to take his 1st win at his hometown track but not his 1st in his rookie season as he picked up early in the season at Donnellson. Andrew Schroeder took second away from Dickey. Cayden Carter and David Brown rounded out the top five.

The final feature of the night was the KBOE Radio IMCA Northern SportMods 16 lap feature and it was Derek Liles leading the opening lap. Jason McDaniel took the lead away on lap two. The only race caution came out on lap seven for Scott VanBusKirk spinning in turn two. McDaniel had several challenges the rest of the way from Brett Lowry and then Curtis VanDerWal but it was McDaniel making his return visit to victory lane. VanDerWal continues his way finishing no worst than second with another runner up finish. Lowry, Brayton Carter and Logan Anderson was third through fifth respectively.
