21 All-MCC Awards For William Penn Track And Field

Over 20 all-Midwest Collegiate Conference honors were earned by William Penn outdoor track and field athletes this spring.

All-MCC awards are given to all athletes finishing in the top three in individual events, in the top two in a relay event, or first in an event not contested at the league championships. Honorable-mention awards also go to any other athletes meeting the NAIA’s qualifying standard who were not already named all-MCC in their event.

The men notched 18 laurels, while the women earned three.

Cornelius McCastle (So., McKinney, Texas, Industrial Technology) headlined as he claimed the co-MCC Field Athlete of the Year accolade by winning the high jump, taking second in the triple jump, and being third in the long jump.

Derek Seddon (So., Knoxville, Iowa, Physical Education) collected a pair of laurels by winning the discus and placing third in the shot put.

Yonas Desta (So., Salt Lake City, Utah, Biology) also won an event, taking gold in the 5,000-meter run, while fellow distance runner Ochaung Akway (Sr., St. Paul, Minn., Physical Education) was second in the 10,000-meter run and third in the 5,000.

A wide array of second places came from Markenson Charles (So., Lehigh Acres, Fla., Industrial Technology) (110-meter hurdles), Van Love-Scott (Sr., Detroit, Mich., Education) (javelin), Kalob Gist (So., Oskaloosa, Iowa, Business Management) (shot put), Jaylin Thomas (So., Baton Rouge, La., Biology) (long jump), and Neiman Thompson (Jr., Rockville, Md., Physical Education) (400-meter dash.

Thompson also teamed up with Payton Busch (So., Centerville, Iowa, Secondary Education), CJ Watts (Jr., Rockville, Md., Physical Education), and Spencer Medlin (Fr., Oskaloosa, Iowa, Secondary Education) to take second in the 4×400-meter relay.

Romel Marzette (Jr., Oskaloosa, Iowa) was third in the 100-meter dash as well.

On the women’s side, Tarah Alexander (Jr., Cedar, Iowa, Physical Education) took the 800-meter run title at the league championships, while Meaghan Foster (Jr., Centerville, Iowa, Physical Education) and Emma Hoerr (Jr., Chillicothe, Ill., Physical Education) were both third place in the shot put and discus, respectively.
