OSKALOOSA – An Oskaloosa woman was sentenced to 10 years in prison after she was accused of attempting to sell her one-month-old child.
33-year-old Tiffany Smith was arrested in January and charged with the Purchase or Sale of an Individual, a Class C felony. Court documents state that Smith left her child in August 2025 with a family member of the potential buyer and later demanded $10,000 for the child. The child was returned to Smith, but eventually was removed from her care by the Department of Human Services.
Soon after being released from the Mahaska County Jail, Smith was arrested once again after allegedly stabbing a man in the 900 block of South 11th Street. She was charged with Willful Injury – Causing Bodily Injury (Class D felony), Going Armed with Intent (Class D felony), and Domestic Abuse Assault – Displaying or Using a Dangerous Weapon – First Offense (aggravated misdemeanor).
The two cases were merged into one and a plea deal was reached in August, allowing Smith to plead guilty to two of the charges against her (Purchase or Sale of an Individual and Willful Injury – Causing Bodily Injury), while the remaining charges were dismissed.
On Friday, October 30, Smith was sentenced to 10 years in prison by Judge Joel Yates, with credit for time already served. She was also given a concurrent 5-year prison sentence for the Willful Injury charge.
