NEWTON – A Newton man faces a felony burglary charge after allegedly attempting to break into a locked residence in Newton on Sunday.

According to court documents, 59-year-old Darrin Hamilton was seen on security camera footage on the afternoon of Sunday, September 20, attempting to enter a home on South 10th Avenue East. Testimony from the victim, as well as a neighbor who claimed to be an eyewitness to the incident, corroborated that Hamilton attempted to force one of the doors of the home to open, and that he was yelling at the victim through the door.

Hamilton was arrested by officers with the Newton Police Department and charged with 2nd Degree Attempted Burglary, a Class D felony. A no-contact order was also issued between Hamilton and the victim, and Hamilton’s preliminary hearing is scheduled for September 30.
