President Trump, Congresswoman Ashley Hinson and Governor Kim Reynolds posted statements on social media last night announcing $5 million in FEMA funding has been approved for Iowa individuals and farmers impacted by severe weather in July.

A spokesman for Governor Reynolds says the $5 million is for individuals in Jasper, Polk, Story, and Warren Counties who were affected by severe weather and flooding caused by torrential rains.

At the end of August, FEMA approved $17.5 million for damage caused by severe storms that hit 11 counties in 2020, 2024 and 2025. That batch of money is going to cities and counties as well as Grinnell’s hospital, two northwest Iowa school districts and two drainage districts, to repair tile lines. FEMA is also sending over $9 milllion from its Hazard Mitigation Grant Program to the State of Iowa as well as three counties and five cities. The grants will be used to buy-out flooded properties or to upgrade emergency warning systems.
