Newton Police Arrest Cedar Rapids Man Following Online Child Exploitation Investigation

NEWTON – A Cedar Rapids man was arrested by Newton police following an online child exploitation investigation.

According to the Newton Police Department, an investigation into 61-year-old Scott Richard Bader began in May of this year, and during the investigation, Bader communicated with an undercover police officer who was posing as a 15-year-old child. In these communications, Bader allegedly solicited the child to engage in sex acts and requested sexually explicit photographs from them.

Authorities executed a search warrant at Bader’s residence in Cedar Rapids this week and he was arrested on Thursday and transported to the Jasper County Jail. Bader now faces several charges, including Sexual Exploitation of a Minor – Cause to Engage in Act (Class B felony), Grooming (Class D felony), Enticing a Minor Under 16 – Sexual Purpose (Class D felony), and Telephone Dissemination of Obscene Material to a Minor – 1st Offense (aggravated misdemeanor). He remains in custody on a $17,000 bond and his preliminary hearing is scheduled for August 17.
