A fire at an Ottumwa motel has been called arson. Ottumwa firefighters were called to the Colonial Motor Inn on Albia Road around 4:15pm Tuesday (4/26) with a report of a room on fire. Firefighters found heavy fire and smoke coming out of room 229. The fire was quickly put out. No one was inside the room at the time. The room was heavily damaged by fire and there was smoke damage throughout the building. Five families that were living in the motel have had to leave…and the American Red Cross is helping them find new accommodations. The cause of the fire has been ruled arson.
