Two more lowa Hawkeyes have been suspended for the September 1 season opener against Northern Illinois. Offensive tackle Alaric Jackson and defensive lineman Cedrick Lattimore will be suspended for violating team rules. The Hawkeyes say the suspensions aren’t for legal matters. But coach Kirk Ferentz says Jackson and Lattimore’s issues surfaced in the late spring and both players were given guidelines to meet. While Ferentz called their response “excellent,” it apparently wasn’t strong enough to avoid missing the opener. This means both of the Hawkeyes’ starting offensive tackles will miss the Northern Illinois game. You’ll remember Tristan Wirfs has been suspended for one game after being charged with drunk driving on July 29.

Kyle Larson, Kasey Kahne, and Tony Stewart will join the best sprint car drivers in the country on Monday night competing in the “One night stand for 20 grand!”
Tony Stewart wasn’t satisfied with just one night at the Osky Challenges, as “Smoke” will return on Tuesday, August 7th for the Sage Fruit ASCS Ultimate Challenge presented by Searsboro Telephone Company to compete with the ASCS National Tour. It will be Stewart’s first trip back to Southern Iowa Speedway since 2013, when he broke his leg in competition at the FRC, and he’ll be looking to take home two belts!
“We’re super excited to have three of NASCAR’s biggest names joining a great list of sprint car drivers on Monday night,” said promoter Terry McCarl. “All three have had great success at the Challenges: Tony looked like he was going to grab the win before his wreck 5 years ago, Kasey finished on the podium in the inaugural Ultimate Challenge driving for Keith Kunz and has made the podium during the Front Row Challenge as well, and Kyle has two Ultimate Challenge wins to go along with two 3rd-place finishes at the FRC and will be looking to become the first driver to win both!”

Badger Contracting out of Germantown, Wisconsin has added their name as the sponsor of the IMCA RACEsaver 305s, who will be competing for $1,000 to win and $100 to start Monday night.
McCarl noted that fans should arrive early both nights, especially those planning to join the infield party zone. “People will want to get to the track as early as possible for the infield parking,” said TMAC. “The infield gates will open at 3:00pm both nights and will close around 6:00pm, or when they fill up!”

August 6th: On this day
On this day in 1990 Capitol Records released “Friends in Low Places” by Garth Brooks. The first single from his second album, No Fences, the song spent four weeks at #1 on the US country singles charts. The idea for the song was born when Earl Bud Lee and some songwriting friends gathered for lunch one day at Tavern on the Row, in Nashville eatery. When the check came, Lee realized he had forgotten his money. He was asked how he was going to pay for the meal, and he replied, “Don’t worry. I have friends in low places. I know the cook.”
