  • Today in 1967, Jack Greene became the first country star to appear in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York.
  • Today in 1968, Tammy Wynette was sittin’ pretty at #1 in Billboard with “Stand By Your Man.”
  • Today in 1976, police arrested Jerry Lee Lewis outside the gates of Graceland after he showed up for the second time that night and made a scene by shouting, waving a pistol and demanding to see Elvis Presley.
  • Today in 1992, Roy Acuff died from congestive heart failure in Nashville and was buried within eight hours. A Grand Ole Opry symbol for over 50 years, the “King Of Country Music” was also the first living member inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame.
  • Today in 1994, George Strait’s “Easy Come, Easy Go” went double platinum.
  • Today in 1994, Mark Chesnutt’s albums, “Too Cold at Home” and “Longnecks & Short Stories,” went platinum.
  • Today in 1996, Trace Adkins made his debut on the Grand Ole Opry. After his performance, he proposed to his girlfriend, Rhonda, from the Opry Stage. Of course, she said yes! The couple later welcomed two daughters – Mackenzie and Brianna – to the Adkins fold. Trace also has two daughters from a previous marriage. She filed for divorce in March 2014, but they’re still married.
  • Today in 1996, Deana Carter iced the top spot on the Billboard country chart with “Strawberry Wine.”
  • Today in 2000, Rascal Flatts lip synced “Prayin’ For Daylight” on an OshKosh B’Gosh float during the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York. Jo Dee Messina rode a Jell-O float, and Kenny Chesney offered up “Me And You” with Sara Evans and Jennifer Day looking on.
  • Today in 2006, Carrie Underwood performed “Before He Cheats” during halftime of an NFL Thanksgiving Day game at Texas Stadium in Irving, while Kelly Clarkson delivered the national anthem. The Dallas Cowboys won handily over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, 38-10.
  • Today in 2012, a new installment of “CMT Crossroads” debuted featuring Randy Travis and the Avett Brothers debuted. Among their performances is a collaboration on “Three Wooden Crosses.”
  • Today in 2014, Luke Bryan, Brantley Gilbert, Carrie Underwood and Florida Georgia Line came up winners in the American Music Awards.
  • Today in 2015, the Old Dominion single, “Snapback,” hit the airwaves.
  • Today in 2017, Florida Georgia Line’s Tyler Hubbard acknowledged on social media that he’s undergone back surgery.
  • Today in 2017, Kelsea Ballerini performed “Legends” during “The Thanksgiving Day Parade On CBS.”
  • Today in 2017, Dustin Lynch, Sara Evans, Lauren Alaina and Cam rode in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York City. Lynch performed “Small Town Boy” from the KFC float. The parade also featured Patti LaBelle, Jimmy Fallon, Bebe Rexha and Smokey Robinson, plus an appearance by Gwen Stefani on “White Christmas.”
  • Today in 2018, Jimmy Wayne made his acting debut as Lifetime Television premiered the Christmas movie, “Every Other Holiday.” Wayne portrays a wealthy rancher who gets entangled in the drama of a divorced couple in the midst of reuniting. Also making cameos are Mark Collie, Tiffany Fallon and Irlene Mandrell.
  • Today in 2018, the day after she rode in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, Carly Pearce brought then-boyfriend Michael Ray to her parents’ house for turkey dinner. The couple married on October 6th, 2019 near Nashville, Tennessee…and all seemed well until June 2020. That’s when Carly filed for divorce after eight months of marriage.
  • Today in 2019, Luke Combs debuted at #1 on the Billboard country albums chart with “What You See Is What You Get.”
  • Today in 2020, Hal Ketchum died of complications from dementia at his home in Texas. A 1994 inductee in the Grand Ole Opry, he rode a soaring voice and folk tendencies to a bundle of hits during the ’90s, including “Past The Point Of Rescue,” “Sure Love” and “Small Town Saturday Night.”
