No Injuries Reported In Two Large Oskaloosa Fires

The Oskaloosa Fire Department responded to an early morning fire today in Oskaloosa.

At 5:43 AM Monday, ten Oskaloosa firefighters, along with four from New Sharon, were on the scene after receiving the call of a house fire at 320 North 5th Street. After fighting the flames for nearly three and a half hours, Oskaloosa Fire Chief Mark Neff deemed the house a total loss.

There were no injuries reported.

Chief Neff said the cause of the fire was the family dog pulling a blanket over a space heater, which ignited the blaze.

This fire comes on the heels of another large house fire in Oskaloosa last Tuesday at 610 6th Avenue East. Again, there were no injuries, but the fire caused $95,000 in damage to the structure and the contents that were damaged or destroyed.

Chief Neff believes this fire was caused due to a carelessly discarded cigarette.
