STATESMEN MEN WIN, WOMEN LOSE AT CULVER-STOCKTON

Statesmen men win, women lose at Culver-Stockton

Make it nine straight wins for William Penn’s men’s basketball team.  The second-ranked Statesmen beat Culver-Stockton 92-81 Wednesday night (1/8) at Culver-Stockton.  Dexter Hood and Karmari Newman had 20 points apiece for the Statesmen, who are now 14-1 overall and 8-1 in the Heart of America Athletic Conference.  The Statesmen host 20th ranked Peru State Saturday afternoon (1/11).

The Statesmen women saw their six game winning streak come to an end Wednesday night as Culver-Stockton scored a 79-72 win in Canton, Missouri.  The Wildcats had a strong third quarter, outscoring William Penn 28-13 in that frame and it ended up being the difference.  The Statesmen also had 20 turnovers last night.  Brittany West had 18 points to lead William Penn, with teammate Makenzie Pezley adding 17.  The Statesmen women are now 10-4 overall and 6-3 in the Heart of America Athletic Conference. The Statesmen women are off until Saturday when they host Peru State.
