INDIANS CLINCH SHARE OF CONFERENCE TITLE

Indians clinch share of conference title

Oskaloosa High’s volleyball team won a share of the Little Hawkeye Conference Championship Monday (10/14).  The 10th ranked Indians defeated Pella Christian three sets to two to clinch a tie for the regular season title. It was a back and forth match, with Oskaloosa winning the first set 25-22, Pella Christian the second 25-21, Oskaloosa the third 25-21, Pella Christian the fourth 25-19, before the Indians took the deciding fifth set 15-13.  The victory gives Oskaloosa a 6-1 record in conference play.  They can do no worse than tie for first, with Indianola and Dallas Center-Grimes, who have 5-1 records, playing Tuesday.  Oskaloosa Senior Meghan Moorman talked about the Indians’ success.

“We’ve really bonded.  We all just know each other really well and we work really well together.  Obviously, having Jolie (Yang) out is a downfall but Olivia (Gordon) stepped right in and got after it and has stepped in that position well.  And even that, we’ve now bonded with her just from playing a few matches.  So, I say, just the bond.  We never got mad at each other,  we never stooped down, we just stayed up.  I think that helped us.”

Sophomore Olivia Gordon took over as setter for the Indians after senior Jolie Yang was sidelined by an ankle injury last week.  Faith DeRonde had 19 kills for the Indians, who are now 15-10 overall.  Now the Indians have the Little Hawkeye Conference tournament Thursday night (10/17) at Pella High School.
