High school basketball last night

Grinnell’s girls’ basketball team is going to the state tournament.  Grinnell defeated Pella 59-40 Tuesday night (2/19) in Grinnell to win the Class 4A Region 8 championship.  The Tigers will be the third seed in the 4A state tournament and will take on Bishop Heelan of Sioux City next Tuesday (2/26) at 5pm at the Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines.

In boys’ high school basketball, Montezuma will play BGM for the Class 1A District 9 championship.  Montezuma defeated Baxter 70-51 in Tuesday night’s (2/19) district semifinals, while BGM knocked off Lynnville-Sully 77-69.  The Braves and Bears will square off Thursday night (2/21) in Grinnell for the district title.

In 1A District 8, WACO defeated Pekin 53-50; 1A District 11, North Mahaska beat Moravia 53-42 to reach the district title game.  The Warhawks will take on Grand View Christian Thursday night at 7 in Pleasantville.

In Class 2A: Pella Christian defeated EBF 80-66 to win the District 9 title.  The Eagles will play Van Meter Saturday night (2/23) in the substate game in Knoxville.  Van Meter defeated PCM 51-44 to take the District 10 championship.
