High school basketball playoffs

It’s one and done for the Oskaloosa girls basketball team.  Washington defeated the Indians 44-28 Wednesday night (2/13) in the opening round of the Class 4A Region 7 playoffs.  Kaylee Johnson had six points to lead Oskaloosa; the Indians finish the year with a 2-19 record.

Also in Class 4A girls basketball last night, in Region 4, Bondurant-Farrar eliminated Newton 51-37.  In Region 8, Norwalk defeated Knoxville 50-45; Norwalk plays at Pella Saturday night.  In Class 5A, Ottumwa beat Des Moines Hoover 60-14; the Bulldogs play at Dowling Catholic in West Des Moines Saturday night.

In Class 1A girls: Region 4, Lynnville-Sully over Iowa Mennonite 53-45; Region 5, Montezuma routed Moravia 82-16, Keota over Moulton-Udell 50-33, Sigourney over Winfield-Mount Union 41-17. Region 6, North Mahaska over Southeast Warren 68-17.

2A girls Region 6: Pella Christian over Pekin 66-53.  3A girls Region 7: North Polk defeated PCM 64-35 and South Tama over Centerville 69-35.

The much-delayed boys district playoffs got under way Wednesday night (2/13).  1A District 9: Colo-Nesco over Tri-County 61-46.  2A District 9: Davis County over Van Buren 64-47 and Albia defeated Williamsburg 66-64. 2A District 10: Pleasantville beat Colfax-Mingo 76-45 and Chariton over Interstate 35 38-29.

There are more boys district playoff games on Thursday (2/14).  There’s a 1A District 9 doubleheader in Montezuma with Sigourney against Baxter at 6:30, followed by Montezuma versus Colo-Nesco at 8.  You can hear both games on KBOE-FM; our coverage will start at 6:15.  There’s also a 1A District 9 doubleheader at Lynnville-Sully with BGM against HLV at 630, followed by Lynnville-Sully against Collins-Maxwell.  1A District 11: North Mahaska plays Twin Cedars at 6:30 in Saydel.  1A District 8: Pekin hosts Holy Trinity Catholic at 7 and Keota is at Burlington Notre Dame at 8.  Class 2A District 9 tonight has a doubleheader at EBF, with Pella Christian versus Albia at 630, followed by EBF against Davis County.  We’ll have the EBF/Davis County game on KMZN AM and FM with coverage starting at 7:45.  And in 2A District 10, Chariton plays PCM at 6:30 at Van Meter.

And if you’re looking ahead, Friday night (2/15) on KBOE-FM, we’ll have Montezuma’s girls’ 1A game with Keota with coverage at 6;45.  And on KMZN AM and FM, we’ll have the North Mahaska girls versus Bedford from Chariton.  Coverage starting at 6:45.
