A man from Richland will go on trial in June for firing a shotgun at a Keokuk County Sheriff’s Deputy. 72-year-old Michael McClure has pleaded not guilty to assault on a peace officer with a firearm, going armed with intent and reckless use of a firearm. According to a criminal complaint, back on January 6, McClure called 911 to say there were several people in his yard. When Deputy Sheriff Jeff Runnells arrived and knocked on McClure’s door, a shotgun blast came from inside the house. Runnells says it missed him by about four feet. McClure is free on $5000 bond; his trial is scheduled to start June 18.
