WATER RESCUE MADE BY OTTUMWA FIREFIGHTERS

Water rescue made by Ottumwa firefighters

Ottumwa firefighters had to make a water rescue on the Des Moines River Monday night.  Around 7pm Monday, the Fire Department received a call about a boat in the water that had lost power and was floating toward the Ottumwa Water Works Hydro plant.  The boat got caught in debris south of Gateway Drive.  During the rescue, a boat with two firefighters inside capsized due to the strong current.  Both firefighters were able to make it safely to shore.
