POSTSEASON BASEBALL DISTRICTS AND SUBSTATE GROUPS ANNOUNCED

Postseason Baseball Districts and Substate Groups Announced

The official brackets aren’t out yet, but we know who will have to go through who to reach the state baseball tournament in July.

In Class 1A, District 9 is loaded with four area schools in the eight-team group. Keota, Pekin, Sigourney, and Tri-County will all be vying to reach the substate final against the District 10 winner. Cardinal is in that district, and will be in the middle of the pack in terms of record.

In Class 1A District 11, Lynnville-Sully, Montezuma, and North Mahaska will be looking to reach the substate final over each other. They are paired with District 12, where defending state champion Twin Cedars will be looking to advance back to state over Moravia, Melcher-Dallas, and others.

In Class 2A, District 11 is the busy district, with five of the six teams in the group from the area. Albia, Davis County, and Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont will represent the South Central Conference, and will have to go through Pella Christian, PCM and Central Decatur to reach the substate final. In Class 2A District 10, Mid-Prairie will have to pull an upset or two to reach the substate final in their portion of the pairings.

In Class 3A Substate 5, Grinnell and Washington will be underdogs to try to advance out of their eight-team substate bracket. Substate 6 is loaded, as Oskaloosa and #2 Pella headline a tough group. Centerville and Fairfield are also in the mix in Substate 6. Knoxville drew Substate 7, and should be the favored team in that group.

In Class 4A, Ottumwa is in Substate 6, where #8 Cedar Rapids Prairie will likely be the favorite.

The bracket pairings will be released for Class 1A and 2A next week, and the week of July 6th for 3A and 4A.
