Five All-Conference Accolades Awarded to Oskaloosa Girls’ Soccer

Oskaloosa had five girls’ soccer players receive All-Conference recognition from the Little Hawkeye Conference this week for their efforts on the field this season. Senior defender Rachel Adams was voted to the first team while senior co-captains Aleda Renter and Laura Van Kooten were voted 2nd team All-Conference. Sophomore Ashley Brockman and Junior Jackie Reif received Honorable Mention. Adams and Van Kooten helped lead a strong Oskaloosa defense which included shutting out the top scorer in the state from Newton and also shutting out a tough Pella team in the second half in their regular season finale.

Renter scored 7 goals this season, Brockman led the team with 12 goals while Reif scored 4 goals but led the team with 9 assists. Keely Blanchard, who was a four-year starter for the Indians, finished with 7 goals. Oskaloosa competes in one of the toughest girls’ soccer conferences in the state as the Little Hawkeye featured four teams ranked in the top 10 of Class 2A all season. Oskaloosa scored 44 goals this season, which is the most in a single season, while allowing 33 goals.

The Indians finished with a record of 8-8 and after defeating Ottumwa 6-0 in the quarterfinals of the Class 2A Regional Tournament ended their season with a 4-0 loss at Pella in the semifinals this past Tuesday night. Oskaloosa loses eight quality seniors, many which have started the past four years including the entire starting defensive back line; however the future looks bright for Oskaloosa Girls’ Soccer. Seniors include Rachel Adams, Aleda Renter, Laura Van Kooten, Keely Blanchard, Samantha Stearns, Grace Vavra, Victoria Holthaus, and Kadee Anderson.
